MCSO investigating 11-year-old student's death on Magnolia ISD school bus; no foul play suspected

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is investigating a Magnolia ISD student's death on a school bus that happened on Tuesday morning.

Deputies say that they received an emergency call at 7:38 a.m. regarding an unresponsive 11-year-old student aboard a Magnolia ISD school bus. The student was taken to a hospital and was later pronounced dead after emergency personnel administered immediate CPR and life-saving measures.

The sheriff's office says that the bus was en route to school when the medical emergency happened. Furthermore, detectives say that the student suffered a medical emergency related to a previously diagnosed medical condition. According to MCSO, no foul play is suspected.

MCSO is working with the Montgomery County Medical Examiner's Office to determine the cause of death.

Precinct 5 Constable Chris Jones provided the following statement after the incident.

"We stand in solidarity with the school, faculty, teachers, friends, and the many loved ones of this student. This is an incredibly tough day for our community and the weight of this tragedy is felt by us all. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the MCHD medics, hospital staff, MCSO Detectives, and all the first responders we have worked alongside today. Their professionalism and dedication during such a difficult time do not go unnoticed. This is a heartbreaking day, and we lift this child and their family up in our prayers. We ask that the community joins us in respecting the family's privacy as they navigate this unimaginable loss."

The Magnolia ISD student attended Bear Branch Intermediate, according to the district. On Tuesday, the district sent a letter to the Bear Branch Intermediate community.

Dear Bear Branch Intermediate Community,

"It is with profound sorrow that I share the news of a tragedy in our school family. This morning, a BBI student passed away following a medical emergency.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our BBI Bears. Our hearts and thoughts are with the student's family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.

We know this news may be difficult for your child to process. To support our students and staff, counselors will be available at BBI throughout the week to provide a space for students to talk, grieve, and receive support.

We ask that you join us in extending our deepest sympathy to the family."
