Man taken into custody after standoff with police in Huntsville Walmart parking lot, officials say

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (KTRK) -- A man is in custody after an active situation that happened in a Huntsville-area Walmart Sunday evening, the Huntsville Police Department said in a Facebook post.

Officials said that at about 6 p.m. officers were dispatched to a possible intoxicated person causing a disturbance near Little Caesars Pizza in the 100 block of IH-45 South.

When officers arrived, they found the suspect and attempted to detain him, but he sped off in a vehicle to a Walmart parking lot, where he parked and refused to get out, authorities said.

The area was secured to contain the situation, and after a short standoff, he was taken into custody, police said.

According to police, no shots were fired, and no one was hurt during the incident.
