Fire rekindles at home where man was shot by deputy in northeast Harris County, HCSO says

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A fire that started after a man was shot by a deputy in northeast Harris County on Wednesday has since rekindled, according to the sheriff's office.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said deputies responded to a family disturbance call at 1:30 p.m. in the 15600 block of Morning Dove Drive.

Deputies said that a woman had been assaulted by her son, who is approximately 47 years old, and that he had locked himself in the home. According to law enforcement, deputies noticed smoke coming from the home, which appeared to be a fire that started inside.

That's when the son reportedly came ouf ot the home from the garage, allegedly armed with two knives. Law enforcement said that a deputy then discharged their weapon and hit the man, who was later taken to a hospital.

According to HCSO, the deputy is approximately 31 years old and has been with the sheriff's department for about seven years. Law enforcement said that the woman was treated for minor injuries, and no deputies were injured.

In an update early on Thursday, HCSO said firefighters were headed back to the home after the fire had rekindled. HCSO Lt. R. Berry, Jr. said no one was inside the home at the time, adding that no foul play is suspected.

The lieutenant also said the suspect was no longer in the hospital, though his condition is unknown.

Berry said an investigation remains ongoing into what originally caused the fire, but said they believe the man who was shot by deputies may have been involved.
