KLEIN, Texas (KTRK) -- Officials say a Klein ISD student was arrested Friday morning after bringing a gun to school.
The district said the Klein High School student was caught displaying a weapon and was reported to a staff member.
"Administrators and Klein ISD Police immediately responded to this report and located and detained the student swiftly. Our team never lost sight of the student from the moment he was identified. The student was searched, and an unloaded handgun was found in his possession," the district said in a letter to parents.
School officials said no ammunition was found in the gun.
The student was arrested and will face felony charges, Klein ISD said, adding that he was also expelled from the district.
"We want to take a moment to specifically commend the students who came forward to make the report and the staff who followed their training and responded to the situation immediately. Their actions made a direct difference today to Keep Klein Safe," the letter read.
The district said counselors would be available for students who were affected by Friday's incident.
