Katy ISD 5-year-old boy places first in statewide Kinder division of chess

KATY, Texas (KTRK) -- One Katy ISD student is setting the bar high after placing first in the statewide Kindergarten division of chess.

Katy ISD posted to Facebook a photo of Ryan Mecham and the trophy almost as big as him.

The kindergartner attends Nottingham Country Elementary School.
