MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said a former Humble ISD teacher is now behind bars, accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a former student while working in New Caney ISD.
Online records show the teacher, Garrett Cross, 38, was booked into jail on Friday. He was still listed as a current inmate as of Saturday.
Investigators said the charges stem from when Cross worked at Pine Valley Middle School in New Caney ISD five years ago. According to a statement from Humble ISD, Cross was a theater teacher in New Caney from 2011 to 2022.
Cross is currently in the Montgomery County jail and charged with indecency with a child.
Humble ISD said Cross was hired to its district in 2022 before becoming aware in December 2025 that he was at the center of a criminal investigation. Cross was placed on administrative leave and did not go to an Humble campus at all this spring semester, according to the district.
Cross resigned on Tuesday, according to officials. On Thursday, MCSO said, deputies obtained an arrest warrant, and on Friday, Cross turned himself in.
The Texas Education Agency noted online that Cross is also under investigation by the agency.
Deputies have asked any other possible victims to come forward.
