HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A teacher's aide in Klein ISD was fired and arrested after being accused of assaulting a 9-year-old child, according to court documents.

James Broussard, 26, was charged with injury to a child causing bodily injury on Tuesday, records show. A judge set his bond at $30,000.

According to charging documents, he's accused of hitting a 9-year-old repeatedly and sitting on top of the child.

"It's alleged there's a video that shows you as a paraprofessional grabbing the complainant," said a judge. "Putting the complainant's hands behind the complainant where the complainant falls three times ... punched the complainant three times on the head ... pulled shirt over their head and shoved the complainant face down."

Court officials say Broussard sat on the child, and allegedly repeatedly punched and slapped the student.

In a statement, Klein ISD said it fired Broussard after an immediate and thorough investigation, and released a statement that read in part:

"The safety and well-being of our students is our highest responsibility. Any conduct that compromises a student's safety is completely unacceptable, will never be tolerated, and will be met with immediate action to protect our students."

So far, Klein ISD has not said what school this allegedly happened at, how they were notified, or how long Broussard was employed.

In probable cause court, court officials said Broussard told officers he didn't mean to hurt the child.

A judge ordered him not to have contact with the victim or with anyone under the age of 17.
