Woman arrested for murder after man was killed during fight at SW Houston apartment party, docs say

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A woman is in custody after a man was fatally shot during a fight at a party in a southwest Houston apartment on Saturday night, officials said.

According to court documents, 21-year-old Jeremiah Lee Jackson shot and killed an unarmed 31-year-old man, striking him in the back as he ran away.

Investigators said the shooting happened during a family gathering, and numerous people were nearby when shots were fired. Officers said that people started running away once gunfire erupted after the fight.

Houston police said they arrived after receiving a call about the shooting and found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

It's unclear who was involved in the fight or if the victim was the intended target. HPD reported no other injuries.

A firearm was recovered from the scene, but HPD said it is unclear if it was used in the shooting.
