HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- It's a warm end to Spring Break with records being broken on Thursday. For the first time this year, the temperature rose to a record breaking 90 in Houston. We didn't hit 90 last year until May 15th so we're off to a super hot start.
Thicker clouds and stronger winds will only allow for a high of 85 on Friday so the record of 88 should be safe.
A cool front moves in overnight bringing slightly cooler temperatures back to SE Texas.
The next big storm system to impact the country will develop and move through heading into the weekend. By Friday an upper-level low will begin traverse east of the Rocky Mountains. Southeast Texas is on the warmer and breezy side, but we'll be watching for the weather system's strong cold front to move through Saturday morning. That could bring a few showers early Saturday, and give us breezy conditions for the rest of the day. Cooler temperatures arrive for Sunday with morning lows in the 50s and afternoon highs only in the low 70s.
It sure looks that way! On average, Houston's last night in the 30s occurs around mid March. If we see any signs of a light freeze or frost on the horizon, we'll be sure to let you know! Otherwise, it's generally considered safe to put plants into the ground if you haven't done so already.
Tree and grass pollen have risen to the high territory for now. It's the oak pollen that's the problem if you're sneezing right now.
