Houston jeweler indicted of laundering and exporting stolen gold, records show

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A Houston jeweler, whose clientele includes NBA and NFL players and other celebrities, is among the multiple suspects federally indicted in a fraud scheme that targeted and stole from older people across the country, according to court documents.

Zohaib Muhmmad and three others, including co-owner Samir Alir, are accused of using Zo Frost and Co. as a front to launder and export gold for a group that targeted and stole from people.

According to federal documents, through the company, Muhmmad and Samir Ali "shipped the gold out of the United States, and purposely mislabeled and falsified shipping documents to conceal and disguise the nature, location, source, ownership, and control of the proceeds of the fraud scheme."

Authorities said the store, along with its owners, was involved in a list of criminal activity, including fraud and theft. Both men are still in custody.

The Sharpstown jeweler has made headlines in recent years for making pieces for famous athletes, including NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and NFL star Maxx Crosby. The store also created the engagement ring for Simone Biles.
