BELLVILLE, Texas (KTRK) -- A Houston firefighter with over 20 years of service has been suspended following an indictment for child grooming charges in Bellville, according to the Houston Fire Department.

The firefighter, identified as Jason Gaines, was arrested last week at HFD Station 90, according to fire officials. Authorities say they received reports about his alleged inappropriate interactions with juveniles through social media.

The Bellville Police Department says it first received a call in January regarding a man attempting to engage in inappropriate conversations with minors.

As the investigation continued, police say more juveniles have came forward with allegations that Gaines sent them sexually suggestive messages. According to the Bellville PD, an Austin County grand jury returned an indictment against Gaines, who was arrested on May 28, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service.

The Houston Fire Department says Gaines has been employed for 22 years and five months.
