Houston leaders pass $33M contract for 2021 winter storm relief

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Nearly five years after a massive winter storm wreaked havoc across Houston, more money is on the way to help homeowners.

City leaders passed an ordinance during Wednesday's meeting, approving a contract to provide relief to homes around the city.

Just over $33 million in federal dollars will be allocated for the 2021 winter storm single-family home repair program, with six vendors.

The city lists the vendors as:

  • Arkitektura Development, Inc.

  • Brizo Construction, LLC

  • Ducky Recovery, LLC

  • James W. Turner Construction, LTD

  • RM Quality Construction, LLC

  • SLSCO, LTD.

According to the city, the program offers home repair services through "reimbursement pathway and the rehabilitation and reconstruction pathway."

"The program determines final eligibility and which pathway to follow. For homes that have not yet been repaired after storm damage, the Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Pathway apply," documents state. "Rehabilitation is the default option for eligible owner-occupied, single-family homes within Houston city limits. Reconstruction is considered only if repair costs exceed 50% of the home's pre-storm value, or repair costs exceed the $100,000 rehabilitation cap."

The city is encouraging anyone who may still need assistance to fill out an application.
