PASADENA, Texas (KTRK) -- A driver is in the hospital after fleeing from an officer and crashing into a building overnight, according to the Pasadena Police Department.

The crash happened at Spencer Highway and York Street after 1 a.m. on Tuesday.

Lt. Craig Hamilton with Pasadena PD said an officer noticed a man "driving recklessly" and tried to stop him, but the driver took off.

"The subject acted like he was going to stop, then he fled at a high rate of speed. As he entered the area of York, there is a slight curve in the roadway." Hamilton said. "Unfortunately, he lost control and then ran into a building."

Police said the driver was extricated and was flown to the hospital.

Hamilton said they're still investigating the crash and what may have led the driver to flee.
