CONROE, Texas (KTRK) -- A worker was killed after a utility trench collapsed in Montgomery County Saturday morning, according to The Woodlands Fire Department.
The Conroe Fire Department and Montgomery County Hospital District responded to a construction accident near the intersection of FM 3083 and Loop 336 at 11:53 a.m., the fire department said in a Facebook post.
When firefighters arrived, they found that the collapsed utility trench had trapped two workers, and additional help was requested, officials said.
The agency said that rescue efforts took more than an hour.
One worker was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, while the other was pronounced dead on the scene, officials said, adding that a third worker who helped was evaluated, but not taken to the hospital.
The City of Conroe said that Conroe Police Department is investigating the incident, and OSHA has been notified.
