CONROE, Texas (KTRK) -- A 17-year-old has been charged with murder in connection with the shooting of another teenager in Montgomery County, according to officials.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said that on July 9, deputies received two 911 calls to report a 16-year-old, Alexander Guervara, had been shot.

Deputies responded to the 16800 block of Northern Flicker Trail in Conroe and conducted life-saving measures, but Guervara was pronounced dead at 6 a.m.

An investigation was conducted, and officials identified the suspect as Messiah Archuleta. On June 10, officials said Messiah was initially charged with tampering with physical evidence and possession of a controlled substance.

It is unclear what led to the shooting or whether the two knew each other.

On Monday, MCSO said the charges were upgraded to murder, and the investigation is still underway.
