HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A two-year-old child was killed in a crash on FM 2920 on Saturday afternoon in northwest Harris County, investigators say.
According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, the crash happened in the 26000 block of FM 2920 near Hegar Road in the Hockley area on Saturday afternoon.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said that a U-Haul driver traveling westbound allegedly fell asleep at the wheel and veered into the opposite lanes. A mother driving a Jeep with her two children onboard was about to be hit head-on by the box truck, but the mother veered away and entered a ditch, according to Gonzalez.
HCSO said the toddler was pronounced dead on scene, while the mother and the other child, an 8-month-old, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Gonzalez said there were no signs of intoxication in the incident.
Investigators have not said if anyone is expected to face charges.
