The ammonia leak was reported at the mall's ice rink and led people to evacuate Tuesday night, according to the fire department.
HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Memorial City Mall has reopened hours after an ammonia leak led to its evacuation, according to the Houston Fire Department.
HFD remained on scene late Tuesday night, working to contain the chemical being used to keep the ice rink frozen.
"Due to an ammonia leak at the Memorial City Mall Ice Rink, out of an abundance of caution, Memorial City Mall was closed for the remainder of the evening," Memorial City Mall said in a statement following the incident.
Fire officials confirmed this was the second ammonia leak reported at the mall recently.
In an update on Wednesday, the fire department said the leak was contained at about 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday and "monitored to ensure ammonia levels were no longer detectable." No injuries were reported.
Officials said the mall would be operating normal business hours on Wednesday, but the ice rink would remain closed until further notice.
