Homeowner says light pole knocked down by car left on sidewalk for weeks until Action 13 stepped in

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A northeast Houston homeowner told ABC13 that a car crash about two weeks ago left a damaged street light pole in his yard and blocked the sidewalk.

Don Washington also said it's making the little East Little York/Homestead neighborhood even darker.

Washington said he contacted CenterPoint, but didn't see action.

"Two or three days later, CenterPoint came out after I called them a second or third time and looked at it and took off, and then they came back as of (Monday) and said it's no hot wires; 'We'll get to it when we can,'" Washington recalled.

CenterPoint confirmed to ABC13 they first learned about the pole about a week ago.

On Tuesday, when ABC13 contacted the company, the pole was picked up in hours.

"ABC13, yes, and I thank y'all for coming out - because we'll get some action now," Washington expressed.

Washington said he's thankful for the quick action.

"They came out and looked at it, but I didn't get any action until ABC13 news got involved; then they came within hours to remove the pole and said they'll be back (Wednesday)," Washington said.

CenterPoint is confirming in a statement to ABC13 that they are working on replacing the street light as soon as possible.
