KATY, Texas (KTRK) -- Katy police are looking for the person who walked into Katy Mills Mall Monday evening and started shooting, sending shoppers running for their lives.
No one was hurt, and as quickly as he fired the gunshots, Katy police chief Bryon Woytek said the shooter and the man he entered with left.
"All we know is they came into the mall together and they left together," Woytek told reporters, adding that they have only a vague description of the suspects.
Woytek said the shooting was reported at 5:19 p.m. The shooter fired in a common area. A pillar was hit and the front window of Rack Room Shoes was shattered. Shoppers rushed the exits.
"We just heard a gunshot. We didn't really think it was a gunshot at first, but we heard people running. It was just two gunshots back-to-back and so we had to duck, hide, get everyone out of plain sight," store employee Laiba Memon said. "I was just so scared."
SkyEye showed heavy police presence at the scene. HCSO Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, whose deputies assisted on scene, said there was no active shooter and that it was an isolated incident.
Woytek said officers are reviewing security video. He asks the public for information to help track the suspects down. It is unclear what the motive is.
"It created a lot of chaos, and it's unknown whether this was done to create chaos," he said. "At this point, it's too early in the investigation to know."
Anyone with information is urged to contact Katy police at 281-391-4848.
