ROSENBERG, Texas (KTRK) -- An 18-year-old wanted for aggravated assault after he was caught on camera hitting a man is in custody, Rosenberg police said.

According to police, Alejandro Maldonado turned himself in Thursday.

In video released by authorities, Maldonado can be seen running up on a man and throwing a punch. The force of the hit knocked the 30-year-old victim's baseball cap from his head.

Maldonado and the victim were walking out of Ruchi's Mexican Grill when the assault occurred. Police said they do not think Maldonado knew his victim.

Rosenberg police are investigating a brazen assault caught on camera.

The victim was severely injured, spending several nights in a nearby hospital.

Initially, police believed Maldonado was going to turn himself in when the attacked happened, but police lost communication with him.

He has been booked into the Fort Bend County Jail with bond set at $25,000.
