HOUSTON -- The Houston Humane Society's Animal Cruelty Team rescued 20 small, older dogs from a Houston residence on Tuesday. The animals include Pomeranian, chihuahuas, a mini schnauzer mix, Jack Russell mix, papillions, a mini dachshund mix and terriers. The canines were owned by an elderly couple, and the situation became unmanageable when one was hospitalized.

The dogs were filthy, matted, and are suffering from severe dental disease, among other things. They have since been cared for and cleaned up.

Coupled with Wednesday's rescue in Matagorda County, Houston Humane Society needs adopters to come forward. These small, older dogs are available for adoption, and will have a special card on their kennel to let adopters know they were recently rescued.

To adopt, please visit Houston Humane Society at 14700 Almeda Rd, Houston, TX 77053. Hours for adoption are Monday - Friday - 11am - 6pm and Saturday - Sunday - 11am - 5:30pm.
