KATY, Texas -- From eggs benedict to chicken and waffles, Old Town Bistro serves up food just like any other restaurant.
This cafe, however, is run entirely by students at Katy ISD's Miller Career & Technology Center. To work at the restaurant aspiring chefs must apply and be accepted to the schools culinary arts program.
"Our students will learn everything from safety and sanitation as they work through their serve safe manager course," Culinary instructor Chelsea Gumm said.
Through the program students also learn knife skills and different cooking methods.
"Occasionally we bring a smoker on campus and show them how to do a classic Texas barbeque," Gumm said.
Old Town Bistro is open to the public. It is located at 1734 Katyland Drive in Katy.
