SPRING, TX (KTRK) -- They say everything is bigger in Texas and skate parks are no exception.
At 78,000 square feet, North Houston Skatepark, located in Spring, Texas, is the largest free skate park in the nation.
"We talked to the kids in the area, and said what would you like to see, what can we do for you?" says Sally Bradford Director of Greenspoint Redevelopment. "There was a need for it in the community and the city."
Since the park opened in summer of 2014, North Houston Skatepark has had over 100, 000 skaters visit from over 20 different countries.
The Texas size skating complex includes a 12-foot vertical ramp, a 10-foot bowl, backyard style pools, a competition-scale bowl in the shape of a Lone Star State with a full pipe area that imitates street skating with ledges, rails, benches quarter pipes and stair obstacles.
'We knew once we decided to do a skate park, we were going to do it right and build one that would put Houston on the map,' Sally says.
