Worker rescued from downtown construction site
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Firefighters pulled a worker to safety after an accident at a construction site in downtown Houston.
According to the Houston Fire Department, a man working on an elevated platform fell 15 to 20 feet to the ground, and into a trench below. His condition is unknown. Firefighters put the man on a stretcher and removed him from the scene with the help of a Stokes basket.
"Paramedics had started working on the patient prior to the rescue team's arrival," said HFD District Chief David Swanson. "They packaged him up and got him into the Stokes basket. We added a rescue worker to the basket with the patient and performed the rescue. ... We train on this quite often, and we see a lot of it with the construction that we've got going on. It's happening quite often. It's just another day in the Houston Fire Department."
Crews were called to the building under construction in the 600 block Main at about 9am.
The injured worker was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital by ambulance. The extent of his injuries is not known. Work continues at the construction site.
