FELTONVILLE, PA -- An 83-year-old woman was found dead inside a working basement freezer in the Feltonville section of Philadelphia on Tuesday.

Sources say it appears her son had been keeping her there to collect her social security checks.

"That's awful. That's sad. Are you kidding me?" neighbor Rosemary Serrano said.

East Detectives, CSI and officials with the medical examiner's office were on the scene on the 4500 block of North Lee Street Tuesday afternoon after police got a tip call.

Action News has learned the elderly woman has been identified as Andrea Carrasquillo.

"I knew the mom; I didn't know her super well because she had a learning disability. She barely spoke," neighbor Diane Negron said.

When officers arrived, Carrasquillo's 58-year-old son William was nowhere to be found.

"A real good guy, hardworking. As far as I know, he always took care of his mom. He also takes care of his grandkids," Negron said.

Right now, the medical examiner is trying to determine the cause of death.

Police were told the woman has been kept frozen since January.

It's the reason investigators moved the entire freezer with her body inside out of the house and onto a large truck.

Neighbors say it's all just a disgrace.

"Who would ever do that to their mother, that's crazy. That's your mother, how do you do that? He always kept to himself," Serrano said.

Action News is told the man left his car and person belongings behind.

Police plan to tow away his Geo Prizm as they search for more evidence and clues.
