GALVESTON, TX (KTRK) -- The Galveston County Medical Examiner has confirmed that a 13-year-old girl who jumped from the back of a moving school bus on the Gulf Freeway has died.
The incident happened Monday afternoon, after an altercation between two girls on the bus.
The bus driver pulled over and separated the students, putting one girl in the front and the other in back. When the bus started moving again, officials say the girl in the back opened the emergency exit and jumped out. Other students witnessed this.
The incident occurred on I-45 southbound, about a mile north of the Galveston Causeway.
The girl was not struck by any other vehicles. She was transported to UTMB in critical condition, and died at about 3pm Wednesday.
