FAYETTEVILLE, NC -- A Fayetteville teenager is facing charges after allegedly beating his grandfather following an argument over money.

Authorities say 18-year-old Michael Allen Jackson became enraged late Friday afternoon when his grandfather, 63-year-old Glenn Maynor, refused to give Jackson $5.

Witnesses told officials that Jackson punched Maynor in the chest and face several times, knocking him to the ground and hitting his head on a concrete floor.

Maynor, who is suffering from a terminal condition accompanied by additional debilitating health issues, was left bleeding from his left eye, nose and mouth and had a severely swollen left eye, according to authorities.

The injured grandfather was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where doctors said Maynor suffered multiple facial fractures and a cerebral contusion.

Deputies later arrested Jackson after he left the scene with his girlfriend following the altercation. He is charged with felony assault on a handicapped person.
