Police search for man who allegedly exposed himself to Clear Lake HS student
A $5,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of a construction worker who allegedly exposed himself to a young girl while she was walking to class at Clear Lake High School.
"There was a crack in the door that she could see through and that's when the incident occurred," said Paul Miller, the school's Director of Facility Services.
The girl, whose name is not being released, told school officials she was walking to class when she heard a knock on a door.
When she opened the door, she said a construction worker exposed himself to her.
Clear Lake High has been under construction for three years.
On a normal day, there are more than 150 workers on campus.
District officials are now adding security cameras both inside and outside the school.
"We're going to add them all the way around the perimeter so the construction workers know they're being watched for preventative measures," said Miller. "In addition, we'll be able to investigate things better from a construction side."
Crimestoppers is offering a reward for information that leads to an arrest.
And today, the construction company, Durotech, announced it is also offering a $5000 reward.
This is the letter that was sent to parents:
Dear Parents and Staff,
Keeping students and staff safe while at school is our district's top priority. This commitment is ever paramount with our school under construction. I would like to communicate security changes we have made in the wake of a situation which involved a construction worker who exposed himself to a female student while she was walking to class this week. The man was working in the restricted construction zone. The doors that lead into the school were padlocked. The man motioned to the student to come to the door and when she did, he exposed himself. The Galveston County Sherriff's Department is actively investigating and working closely with the student's family and the construction company. At this time, a suspect has not been identified. Crime Stoppers and the construction company are offering cash rewards for information leading to an arrest.
While police investigate this case, I want you to know that we have increased supervision of the job site. We have covered all glass doors where there is construction activity and will be adding cameras in the construction areas and alarms to doors leading to restricted construction zones. As always, I welcome your comments and will have a parent information meeting tomorrow at 9:00 am in the CLHS New Building Performing Arts Center to discuss ideas for increased safety and security measures during construction. CCISD Public Information staff will attend the meeting and provide a summary of the meeting which will be available for parents and staff by the end of the day.
