Online threat prompts increased patrols at SE Houston school
A southeast Houston school will get additional police presence today after a student posts a violent threat against students on Instagram.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A threat against students at a southeast Houston school is prompting officials to increase police patrols of the campus.

The threat appeared yesterday on social media. A student who identified themselves as a freshman at Raul Yzaguirre School for Success said there would be violence at the school and posted pictures including an image of a gun with ammunition.

The message attached said the student was being bullied and threatened to turn the gun on students and themselves.

The images were posted to Instagram before they were taken down.

Students and parents have expressed concern in the wake of recent shootings, including last week's shooting at an Oregon college campus that killed nine.

Police are taking this threat seriously and said they would increase patrols around the campus.

The threat is under investigation.

Officials said the best advice is for students and parents to report anything which appears suspicious.
