'Good Morning America' makes a stop in Houston to visit Heights diner, Agnes and Sherman

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- ABC News' Becky Worley is visiting iconic diners across America this week on "Good Morning America". So far, she has been to California and Wisconsin, and made her way to Houston's Heights area on Wednesday.
Worley visited Agnes and Sherman, a self-described "Modern Asian American Diner" located in the heart of the Houston Heights on 19th Street.
The restaurant's website describes how they're named after Executive Chef Nick Wong's parents: Agnes, who came to the U.S. from Hong Kong, and Sherman, who was born and raised in San Francisco. The restaurant has become home to another loving story as Wong and the co-owner, Lisa Lee, met at UC Berkeley and were business partners before becoming engaged.
"This restaurant made us fall in love," Lee told Worley on GMA.
On the website, Wong explains that the restaurant is a mix of classic diner and Asian American cuisine, reflecting Houston's own iconic multiculturalism.

"When you go to Agnes and Sherman, you're going to have things fun and different," a customer said.
Their featured dishes include rice cakes, shrimp toast, their popular cheeseburger fried rice, and scallion waffles.
In March, ABC13 reported that Agnes and Sherman was named as a finalist for Best New Restaurant at the 2026 James Beard Awards, which recognizes talent and achievement in the culinary arts.
