SPRING, TX (KTRK) -- A driver has been killed in a wreck caused by a falling tree in Spring.
According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, a large tree came down in the 4600 block of Treaschwig near Birnam Wood Boulevard, striking a Chevy Tahoe.
The driver lost control of the vehicle and the SUV then struck a metal fence.
"It struck the Tahoe on the left and the driver then continued down the roadway eastbound, rolling until it came to a rest after hitting a fence," said Sgt. Susan Cotter. "The driver was deceased on the scene."
Jeremy Fischer was driving next to the victim and stopped to help. He says it had just started raining and was getting windy.
"I hopped out of the car and I called dispatch," Fischer said. "Dispatch told me to try to open the door and the door wouldn't open because the hood was smashed on top of the car."
The driver's identity has not been released, but investigators say he was about 35 years old.
