Colorblind boy with autism loses special glasses which help him see colors

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- For the first time in years, Dylan Pickford felt more confident. The 10-year-old, who is on the autism spectrum and colorblind, was able to see the world in a whole new way - thanks to a special pair of EnChroma glasses, which helped him see the difference in colors.

However, this weekend everything changed. Dylan and his mother were on Market Street in the Woodlands when Dylan lost his glasses.

"He lost them in the men's restroom near the Starbucks on Market Street at about 6:45 pm on Saturday," said Dylan's mom, Wendy.

The EnChroma lenses create are designed to take normal colors and make them extra-saturated. The lens filters create separations between the light and wavelengths. The Pickfords said they paid about $500 for the lenses which are in black Ray Ban frames with a blue cord strap.

To make matters worse, Dylan lost his glasses just before his family's trip to Disney World to celebrate his birthday. The highlight of the trip - the chance for Dylan to experience Disney's World of Color.

"We can't afford another pair of glasses and also buy Disney tickets, so it's important that we find his glasses," said Pickford. "I can't imagine him missing the experience of Disney World without the color."

Pickford and her family have launched an online campaign to find Dylan's glasses.
