Spring ISD students robbed, assaulted at bus stop

SPRING, TX (KTRK) -- Five middle schoolers in Spring were robbed after getting off the bus.

Wells Middle School principal sent home a letter saying it happened near Beneke Elementary School off of Briarchase Drive on Wednesday at 7 pm.

The letter says four people with guns stole the students back packs and assaulted them before taking off. Fortunately the students were not seriously hurt. They were checked out by a doctor.

Neighbors tell us this is marks the third robbery of children in the Torrey Pines neighborhood in just the past month.

"Robbing adults and pistol-whipping adults is one thing but these are our kids," said Sexton Gaines, the father of a middle school student.

The letter went on to say, "... the safety of all our students is our top priority, and we take matters like these very seriously."

Here is the full text of the letter sent home to Wells Middle School parents by Principal Henri Lewis:

"I wanted to make you aware of an incident that occurred last night. School administrators received a report that five students were robbed last night around 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 10, after exiting the bus at Briarchase Drive near Beneke Elementary School.

According to the report, four males approached the students and were able to get away with their personal belongings. Unfortunately, the students were also physically assaulted. None of the students received life threatening injuries but they were treated by a physician.

At Wells Middle School, the safety of all our students is our top priority, and we take matters like these very seriously. The Spring ISD Police Department is working with local authorities to investigate the incident. They have also increased police presence in the area both before and after school.

It is our hope that you will discuss this incident with your children and urge them to stay alert, be aware of their surroundings at all times, and immediately report anything that might

be a danger or seem threatening to them.
