Mother found dead in SW Houston apartment
Neighbors are left with few answers from police

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- An air of mystery and suspicion descended on the Regal Pointe Apartments Monday morning. Nervous neighbors told Eyewitness News they want answers as to what happened inside apartment 311.

Houston police officers said they were called out to 6111 Willowbend Boulevard by firefighters. Firefighters reported a deceased person inside the apartment. Those living in the complex describe a far more chaotic scene. Ellen Taub said she witnessed a husband screaming as officers taped off the area.

"He was yelling and screaming, 'Somebody killed my wife,'" said Taub. "Then I walked in my door ... He was very upset, extremely."

Wanda Simmons lives in the building just across from the apartment in question. Simmons said a couple with two young children called the place home. She and other neighbors said the woman found dead was their mother. Simmons, to no avail, pressed for answers Sunday night from officers.

"I was out of town when I came home. In the next 15 minutes, I saw the police. They were putting the yellow tape all around," recalled Simmons. "I asked the police, 'Did somebody get killed?' They say we can't discuss it. Can't discuss it? They live right in front of me. I want to know if I need to lock up and move."

Neighbors said the husband was taken by HPD for questioning. As of Monday morning, details remained sparse from investigators. Eyewitness News expects an update later from authorities.
