HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Deputies are looking for the driver who slammed into a man who was using a walker on the side of the road and then left him for dead in east Harris County.

Investigators rushed to the 16400 block of Sunshine Street in Sheldon and found the body of Abel Godinez around 9 p.m.

Deputies said the man in his 30s had only recently regained the ability to walk with the help of a walker after being involved in a car crash several years ago.

Godinez's walker was found next to his body after he was struck by an unknown vehicle.

Investigators said Godinez did not yield the right of way to traffic on the roadway when he was struck.

The victim was wearing dark clothing, and the unlit street has no sidewalks, deputies said.

At this point, deputies do not have any information on the suspect who struck Godinez or what kind of vehicle he was in.

Anyone with information on the crash are asked to call the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
