HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Rain clouds haven't stopped the Houston community from going outside to celebrate the Chinese New Year at Discovery Green.

The 19th Annual Texas Lunar New Year festival is being held today at Discovery Green in Downtown Houston. This is the the festival's 19th year in Houston, but this mark's it's first at Discovery Green. Houston Mayor Anise Parker spoke briefly about the purpose of holding the festival in downtown Houston.

"We have many Lunar New Year events across the community, but we are one Houston, and it was time to have one family event, a Panasian event to bring all of us together down to our premier festival park, Discovery Green, so that we can celebrate as one community, as one family," said Parker. "This is the first year (hosted) here, but 20 years from now I expect to have all of us here, celebrating together as a family."
