ABC13 Weather Watch: Flood Watch remains for most of SE Texas until midnight, severe weather is over

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Widespread heavy storms led to street flooding and severe weather on Friday.

A Flood Watch in effect for most of southeast Texas was cut short from expiring at 4 a.m. on Saturday; it is now in effect only until midnight tonight, according to the National Weather Service.

Multiple rounds of rain, including widespread showers during the morning and afternoon commutes, with on-and-off rain continuing through the early evening, were seen.

The last wave of storms was not severe at 7 p.m. and is expected to completely fade after 9 p.m.

Ground stop issued at Hobby Airport

According to the FAA website, all flights out of William P. Hobby Airport have been grounded on Friday.

Officials said the ground stop is in effect until 12:15 p.m. Friday.

Travelers can continue checking their flight statuses on the airline's app or website.

Ground stop issued at Bush Airport

Departures to George Bush Intercontinental are grounded due to thunderstorms, airport officials said.

According to the FAA, the ground stop is in effect until 11:45 a.m.

Widespread rain causes travel delays

A ground delay is in effect at George Bush Intercontinental Airport until 2 p.m. Friday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration website.

Widespread storms have moved into the Houston area, prompting the statement.

The FAA says the delay for each flight is expected to be about 53 minutes beyond the scheduled takeoff time.
