HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Widespread heavy storms could lead to street flooding and severe weather on Friday.

A Flood Watch is in effect for most of southeast Texas until 4 a.m. on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. There's also a Flood Advisory ongoing for northern Harris County.

We expect multiple rounds of rain, including widespread showers for the morning commute, with on-and-off rain continuing through the early evening. The wave of storms arriving in the late afternoon and evening could also include hail.

Ground stop issued at Bush Airport

Departures to George Bush Intercontinental are grounded due to thunderstorms, airport officials said.

According to the FAA, the ground stop is in effect until 11:45 a.m.

Widespread rain causes travel delays

A ground delay is in effect at George Bush Intercontinental Airport until 2 p.m. Friday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration website.

Widespread storms have moved into the Houston area, prompting the statement.

The FAA says the delay for each flight is expected to be about 53 minutes beyond the scheduled takeoff time.
