Dangerously cold conditions led to a hard freeze Monday morning.

An Extreme Cold Warning is in effect for all of Southeast Texas until noon Tuesday. Temperatures will fall well below freezing by sunrise on Monday.

As the arctic airmass crosses our area, power and water outages and partial road closures have affected most communities north and west of Houston. Montgomery County experienced widespread outages by Sunday evening, officials said.

Many school districts and universities, as well as public offices and courts, are closed on Monday due to inclement weather.

The ABC13 Digital Team is tracking the latest developments throughout southeast Texas and delivering them through the live updates below.

CenterPoint Energy says the workforce to help respond to outages and emergencies has gone up to a total of 3,300 people.

As temperatures plummet across southeast Texas, CenterPoint Energy says its workforce responding to outages and emergencies has increased to 3,300.

"A hundred percent of those are on our system. They've been stationed all across our systems. We have 13 operating centers and two staging sites," Nathan Brownell, VP of resilience and capital delivery, said.

To help with power restoration, they have 1,500 trucks ready, and crews have been brought in from nine different states.

Over 200 flights canceled across Houston airports, officials say

As winter weather conditions continue to evolve, deicing operations are underway at George Bush Intercontinental and William P. Hobby Airports, according to Houston Airports.

Houston Airports said that as of Saturday evening, 185 flights at Bush Intercontinental Airport and 52 at Hobby Airport had been canceled.

The airport authority said both airports remained open and operational, and that the emergency operations centers at each were activated on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Houston Airports said representatives from TSA, the Houston Police Department, the Houston Fire Department, and partner airlines are supporting coordinated, real-time response efforts. It added that the USO at IAH will remain open overnight to support active-duty military members in transit.

Officials advised passengers to monitor conditions before traveling, maintain communication with their airline, plan ahead for commutes, and check weather conditions at their destinations and connecting cities.

Houston Airports also reminded travelers that the airports are not shelters and passengers should coordinate directly with their airline if travel plans change.

Flight delays and cancellations can be tracked at Fly2Houston.com, where passengers can also find airline travel waivers, flight status links, and frequently asked questions.
