Ground stop lifted at Hobby Airport, ground delays at Bush Intercontinental Airport, FAA says

As the most severe weather has passed through southeast Texas, the Federal Aviation Administration has updated the operations for Houston's major airports.

Hobby Airport's ground stop was lifted before 4 p.m., while Bush Intercontinental Airport's ground stop was downgraded to a ground delay.

According to the FAA, a ground delay is implemented to reduce projected traffic demand in an airport's airspace, meaning that air traffic controllers will accept landings at a lower rate than normal.

Travelers should prepare for security delays at both airports due to the partial shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security.
