State recalls offensive license plates in Minnesota
State officials say 39 license plates are being revoked in all

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (KTRK) -- State officials in Minnesota are revoking or recalling 39 license plates they say are racially offensive or feature derogatory terms.

After weeks of reviewing more than 100,000 license plates, the state says it will block a list of plates that shouldn't be in circulation, including "REDSKIN," "TARBABY," and apparently white trash, styled as "WYTRSH."

Jeremy Weiss, who grew up with the nickname 'Beaner,' says his plate was one of those recalled.

Beaner is a derogatory term referring to Mexicans.

Jeani Melgaard was also forced to change her plates. She was the owner of the 'BEANER2' plate.

DPS communications director Bruce Gorden says the 39 license plates slipped through the cracks before the review.
