Katy teacher faces serious charges
The Morton Ranch High School teacher resigned after Katy ISD police opened up an investigation for a possible improper relationship with a student

KATY, TX (KTRK) -- A former Morton Ranch High School teacher is being investigated for a possible improper relationship with a student.

The history teacher resigned Monday, four days after an anonymous letter was delivered to the school claiming he was involved in an improper relationship with a student.

At this time, investigators do not believe that his alleged actions involved any other students.

Because charges have not been filed, the teacher's name is not being released.

Student Adelene Herrera says she had the teacher for world geography and says she's not surprised by the allegations.

"He was a flirt but he wouldn't specifically touch people and stuff," she said. "He would just be a flirt, he would call everybody 'baby.' He would just be like that."

Katy ISD did send the letter to parents and staff, which read in part:

"Please be assured our campus and the District take these kinds of allegations very seriously and is fully cooperating with law enforcement. Parents of students who may have been taught by or interacted on a regular basis with the former teacher in question are being contacted directly.

"Providing a safe and secure learning environment is and will continue to be our top priority and we will always act swiftly when that is compromised. Likewise, we will continue to do everything we can to ensure the safety of our students."

Katy ISD police say the investigation is ongoing.
