Authorities: Inmate who claimed jailer rape lied

WASHINGTON COUNTY, TX (KTRK) -- Washington County authorities are searching for a 22-year-old woman who claimed she was raped by a jail while she was being held behind bars.

Authorities say on July 25, Brenham resident Kayla Lehann Merritt accused a Washington County jailer of sexually assaulting her while she was incarcerated the night before. The Texas Rangers were called to investigated and they determined the allegations were false.

As a result, Washington County Attorney Renee Mueller issued an arrest warrant for false report to police officer, a class B misdemeanor.

Authorities believe Merritt fled Brenham and may be in Mississippi.
