HOUSTON -- Houston ISD trustees voted to rename three more schools with names linked to controversial historical figures.
HISD school board members voted 5-4 to rename Albert Sidney Johnston, 5-4 to rename Sidney Lanier middle schools, and 6-3 to rename Jefferson Davis High School. All three namesakes have ties to the Confederate army.
It'll cost the district about $250,000 per school to complete the renaming process. The district is still trying to figure out where it will get that money.
After it gets the funding, HISD will begin considering new names for the schools.
In November, the school district voted to also rename Henry Grady Middle School, Richard Dowling Middle School, Lee High School and Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson Middle School.
