HISD considering $100M plan to rebuild Bellaire HS
There's a $100 million budget plan on the table to rebuild Bellaire High School. We're talking big money, and big crowds

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- There's a $100 million budget plan on the table to rebuild Bellaire High School. We're talking big money, and big crowds.

As 500 people showed up Thursday night to learn and comment about the future school.

It's a big endeavor, and four major topics were on everyone's mind: the duration of the rebuilding project, the quality of life for student's during construction, their safety, and the impact it would have on the community.

"It's a little overwhelming, but it's exciting as well because although we've done great work in this building for almost 60 years, we've got a legacy to continue and a tradition to continue for the next 50 years," Bellaire High School principal Michael McDonough said. "So it's exciting to design that, but it's a big responsibility and one we take very seriously."

What hasn't been decided yet is whether student's will relocate during construction, or if a new building would be built adjacent to the old one.

At least two more meetings will take place for more community feedback.
