It was a busy morning for deputy constables of Harris County Precinct 1. They were out in force in the process of arresting several people accused of illegal dumping.
Illegal dumping has been a long-standing problem in certain parts of Harris County and the city of Houston. A Harris County environmental task force comprised of a number of law enforcement agencies and officials have targeted one specific area which is been a constant problem with illegal dumping.
This morning, deputies fanned out in several locations to try to arrest suspects. They have at least one person in custody, and Eyewitness News was there when he was transferred to the county jail.
Jamar Houston spoke to Eyewitness News on camera and admitted that yes, he did dump several tires with a friend. He also said they had no idea that illegal dumping was in fact, illegal.
"I was riding with someone and they were dumping, and there were already tires there so I thought the city was going to pick it up," said Houston.
Houston did say he would go back to the neighborhood to help clean up.
The Precinct 1 Constable office has cameras set up at specific locations prone to dumping. Constable Alan Rosen said this s a priority for his office, and he issued a warning to anyone else wanting to illegally dump.
"I am telling you now those that are contemplating coming to Acres Homes to illegally dump, you're going to be arrested, we're going to file charges, we're not going to tolerate it, we'll do something about it," said Rosen.
