What's behind the rash of game store robberies?
Detectives say three armed men robbed a Spring-area Game Stop and its customers, and it's the third heist this week

SPRING, TX (KTRK) -- Detectives hope surveillance video will lead to the arrests of the three armed men who robbed a Spring-area game store and its customers Tuesday afternoon.

The suspects walked in around 2:20pm at a Game Stop in the 200 block of Cypresswood Drive pretending to be customers, according to the Harris County Pct. 4 Constable's Office. Once inside, they demanded everyone to get to the ground and pulled out semi-automatic handguns.

A sales associate at the store says he was told it was a "take over" style robbery. Michael Clay estimates there were about five customers in the store at the time, all of whom were ordered to hand over their cash, cell phones and wallets. One person was roughed up but no one seriously injured.

The robbers took several gaming consoles, and grabbed games from the shelves. The suspects appeared to not be discerning about what the took. At the end, Clay says the trip stopped at a shelf and scooped up an NBA video game, but he adds, "it wasn't one of the new ones."

An employee pulling up to the scene saw the suspects speed off in a light blue car with a gray door.

All three suspects were described only as black males. One wore a black hoodie with a white logo around the neck area and baggy light-colored pants. The second wore all black with a Chicago Bulls hat and a dark jacket with gray trim. The third suspect dressed in all black and wore a green knit cap with white writing. He carried a red backpack with him.

On Monday before another Game Stop was robbed. It too was selling the just released games.

Clay believes the two robberies that occurred within 20 hours of each other had to do with the timing of four big-ticket games release. They include Grand Theft Auto 5 and Dragon Age: Inquisition. Though the robbers didn't go after popular titles, big release days mean a lot of transactions, including cash for used games, and customers paying cash for new ones.

Anyone with information on the identity of these suspects should call the Harris County Constable's office at 281-376-3472.
