Firefighters battle blaze with flames shooting from roof of townhome in Heights area

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Firefighters worked to bring a two-alarm apartment fire under control Monday afternoon in Houston's Heights. The fire burned a four-story apartment building in the 2600 block of Washington at Oliver.

The second alarm was requested at 2:46pm, according to the Houston Fire Department.

According to HFD, one man became trapped on the roof while trying to put out the fire with a garden hose. Firefighters rescued him using a ladder and the man was taken to the hospital. Firefighters also rescued a dog.

The structure suffered heavy fire, water and smoke damage. HFD Arson Bureau is investigating this fire, but it appears to have started near the top of the 4 structure town home.
