Drug kingpin 'El Chapo' injured while fleeing special ops

COSALA, MEXICO (KTRK) -- El Chapo, the Mexican fugitive and drug kingpin, has been injured while running from special ops forces.

Joaquin Guzman broke his leg and also injured his face when he fell down a small cliff earlier this month while fleeing authorities in the mountain town of Cosala, in Mexico's Sinaloa state.

His bodyguards were able to carry him into the woods where they escaped.

Special ops officials say they hope his injuries will slow him down.
