Conroe residents: Early-morning construction noise ruining night's sleep

CONROE, TX (KTRK) -- People living in one Conroe neighborhood say they're having a tough time getting a good night's sleep because of nearby construction going on in the early hours of the morning.

That construction is in the Meadows at Imperial Oaks. The neighborhood is near Rayford Road and Aldine-Westfield Road.

People in the neighborhood tell us cement trucks have woken them up as early as 3:45am.

Katie Allen and Suzette Gomez live right across the street from the next phase of construction in the Meadows at Imperial Oaks.

"It's very exciting to have four new builders come back here. We are actually getting our swimming pool that we've been promised for six years," Gomez says.

But the two women say it's cost them some sleep in the past few weeks.

"(At) 4:14, the first cement mixer rolled up, proceeded by 27 more who sat lined up in the street behind our homes with their reverse lights on, the beeping from the reverse, they're idling. The horns blowing trying to figure out which site they're going to," Gomez explains referring to what they say was the worst morning earlier this week.

"The construction starts between 3:45 and 5:00 in the morning," adds Katie Allen.

Katie Allen sent us video she shot on her cell phone Tuesday morning from her back yard. She says lights shine into into her bedroom window.

"Absolutely frustrating. I'm getting no sleep. I'm almost eight months pregnant," Allen said.

Allen and Gomez tell us the deed restrictions for their community are clear that construction must start after 7am. They called us because they weren't getting much response from the HOA, the developer, or the builders. They say they're all for growth, but some common sense should be involved.

"We're a family, we live here, and it's disrespectful to us. We want the growth, but we don't need it at 3:45 in the morning," Allen expresses.

"I'm tired of being up at 4:14 every morning with a screaming four month old, a five year old and a seven year old with bright headlights in my home," adds Gomez.

A senior project manager for the developer, McGuyer Homebuilders Inc. forwarded us an email sent to all of the builders:

"I recognize the shortened daylight days we have to deal with, but concrete deliveries before 6:30 are causing resident complaints. Please manage your suppliers to (move) toward a reduction in resident complaints."
